Announced in 1993, this attractive multirole light transport was planned around the use of two pusher piston engines (Russian or American), each rated at 220hp and driving a constant speed four-blade propeller.
Since then it has grown in dimensions, the wing being twice redesigned, and the Tu-34 is now offered in two sizes with different weights and with a choice of piston engines or turboprops.
In either case, the metal/composlte airframe has wide-span track-mounted highlift flaps, full-span leading-edge slats, outboard tabbed ailerons and midspan spoilers, a T-type tail, and tricycle landing gear retracting into the finely streamlined fuselage.
Piston engines
This version has a slightly sweptback tailplane and an unpressurised cabin 2.75m (108in) long, 1.6m (63in) wide and 1.34m (52.8in) high, arranged for a pilot and passenger in front and a row of three seats behind. Alternatively 450kg (992Ib) of cargo can be carried, or the interior can be equipped for surveillance, ambulance or other roles.
The leading edge of the wing, originally tapered, is now at 90 deg to the longitudinal axis, the tips are raked, and the adoption of foreplanes is being studied.
Engine power has risen to 230hp each, giving a cruise fuel consumption of 45-50 litres (10-11gal)/h.
Span 13.2m (43ft 3 5/8in);
length 9.44m (30ft 11 5/8in); wing area not stated.
Weight loaded 1,900kg (4,189lb).

Maximum speed 360k/h(224h); cruising speed 280-329km/h (174-199mph);
range 1,800km (1,118 miles);
required runway length 400m (1,312ft).

Turboprop version
This aircraft would be powered by two pusher turboprops, such as the Allison B17, or Turbomeca Arrius, of 420hp each.

The wing would have slight forward sweep and straight tips, and the horizontal tail would have equal taper, the elevator being a single surface with a central tab.
The circular-section fuselage would be pressurised, and house a cabin 3.0m (118in) long, 1.55m (61in) wide and 1.34m (52 3/4in) high, able to carry a pilot and a passenger in front and up to six more passengers in two staggered bench seats behind.

Alternatively, 700kg (1,5431b) or cargo could be carried or a front passenger, stretcher and attendant. With the piston-engined model on hold, it is planned to fly the prototype turboprop Tu-34 in 1998.
Span 13.4m (43ft 11 5/8in);
length 9.9m (32ft 5 3/4in); wing area not stated.
Weight loaded 2,520kg (5,556Ib).

Cruising speed 450km/h (280mph) at 5,000m;
service ceiling 7,500m (24,600ft) with cabin altitude 2,6OOm;
range 580km (360 miles)with 700kg (1,543lb) payload, 2,1OOkm (1,305miles) with 44Okg;
required runway length 400m (1,312ft).
