Tu-204
Launched in 1982 as the most important future Soviet passenger aircraft for Aeroflot trunk routes, replacing the Tu-154, the Tu-204 has seen the vast structure of that operator dismantled and replaced by a profusion of smaller airlines, many of whom are importing Western equipment.
Despite this, the Tu-204 remains the biggest single programme by ANTK im Tupoleva, and is likely to support the production of several hundred aircraft in many verslons. It was designed by a team led by Lev Aronovich Lanovskii. Its size and shape bear a very close resemblance to the unbuilt Hawker Siddeley 134, and some similarity to the Boeing 757, though its detail engineering is entirely different.
