Meeting this need ideally is the single-aisle A320 Family, offering from 100 to 220 seats capacity with the same crews, parts, cabin and performance standards. |

The A318 has range of up to 2850nm/5300km in today’s highest weight version, offering non-stop capability matched to the longer routes of the especially demanding high-cycle operation of the 100-seat travel market. |

This month marks a very special milestone for America West Airlines. On Aug. 1, 1983, the inaugural America West flight took off. We’re pleased to have you onboard as
we celebrate our 20th anniversary and continue building a great tradition. The story of America West is one of the most remarkable chapters in the annals of commercial aviation. On the day of that historic first flight two decades ago, the upstart airline had 280 employees, three aircraft and a flight schedule of 20 daily departures to five destinations. A major underdog, we were competing against much larger, more established carriers in a highly competitive industry. Through the sheer determination of our dedicated employees and the loyal support of our customers, America West managed to carve out a niche in the marketplace and steadily grow. By 1990, we were designated a major airline by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Of the hundreds of start-up airlines that have commenced service since the deregulation of the U.S. airline industry in 1978, only America West has achieved major airline status. |

Today, America West is the nation’s second largest low-fare airline and the eighth largest overall. We have a work force of 13,000 skilled employees and a fleet of more than 140 aircraft. Nearly 900 daily departures are available to 90 destinations in the United States, Mexico and Canada. While America West has undergone many changes over the years, several fundamental strengths have remained constant. Safety has always been our top priority. The willpower of our employees continues to drive us forward, and their hard work has us operating one of the best airlines in the world today. Our commitment to provide our customers with unrivaled value still sets us apart as the only low-fare airline to offer a full range of services. And the spirit of innovation continues to inspire customer-friendly features such as our revolutionary fare structure that gives travelers greater flexibility in booking the flights they need at reasonable fares. As the America West Team looks back with pride on our first 20 years, we’re also looking forward to a bright future. Whether you’ve been with us since the very beginning or this is your first America West flight, we appreciate your support and thank you for joining us on our historic journey. Welcome aboard. |
